Good morning, everyone! Matt here with New Roots Nursery.
As many of you know, we are a backyard nursery specializing in growing our own plants. What I mean by this is that we take all of the cuttings, source as much as we can locally, and grow from seed as much as possible. All of this occurs on our quiet/small little 3/4-acre property. With this comes a wealth of lessons in understanding how to create micro-climates throughout the season to accommodate starting seedlings early, maintaining plants throughout the growing season (and off season), and most importantly, listening to our community on what exactly they'd like to see next from the neighborhood plant nursery.
It is our mission to support our community by offering a local way to purchase and grow new vegetables, herbs, tropical plants, and heaps of different shrubs/trees/perennials including many native plants.
As 2026 has begun, I've begun with planning and making a lot of ambitious goals for the growing season (besides maintaining my full-time job which for us, is vitally importantly!). As of 04Jan2025 we've begun starting seeds for a wide variety of herbs including basil, parsley, chives, dill, tarragon, and many more! In addition, we've started a load of vegetable seedlings for the late winter/early spring garden here in NC including Cauliflower, Broccoli, Lettuce, etc...
For the spring planting season, we are getting a jump start on tomatoes and some warm weather crops! We will have 2+ tomato varieties available for sale in the spring: one will be a slicer (Cherokee Purple or Mortgage Lifter) and the other a cherry (Tommy Toe) as of now. It is our mission to get these plants started early and off to a good start for our garden and yours.
Lastly, we will be sourcing and growing a much larger selection of perennials this year in addition to our garden staples, however this will be from seed so results may vary. We are always on the hunt for native plants, native nurseries, and shade loving perennials since our property has a lot of shade. If you know a good source, vendor, or wholesaler for native plants please let us know!
As always, we are so grateful for all of the support of our community which has helped us grow and continue to support our mission to offer high quality plants at super affordable prices to our neighborhood and beyond.
Don't wait to get your 2026 garden started as the heat and hot summer days are not far from us!
